Laser Treatments Q & A

What laser treatment options are available?

Providers routinely use laser energy for a variety of medical and cosmetic purposes. Lasers can be set to various wavelengths depending on what they’re treating. At All Island Dermatology, your provider uses different types of lasers in many useful ways such as:

  • Hair removal
  • Skin Resurfacing
  • Scar minimization
  • Anti-aging
  • Tattoo removal
  • Fat reduction
  • Varicose and spider vein treatment

Talk to your provider about your goals to determine your best laser treatment options.

What is Vbeam?

Vbeam is a pulsed light laser that your provider uses to correct scars, veins, rosacea, red spots, sun damage, wrinkles, and warts. Vbeam works by ultra heating targeted blood vessels. The vessels attract the intense pulsed light causing them to thicken. Soon after, your body absorbs the vessels that are connected to your problem areas.

What is BBL?

BBL stands for BroadBand Light Photofacial. It’s go-to laser therapy for age-related pigment problems like brown spots, freckles, and other signs of sun damage.

In addition to BBL, Medlite C6 is another effective laser therapy to remove problems associated with brown pigment.

How can I remove my tattoos?

If you’ve changed your mind about your tattoo, laser technology makes it possible to remove it safely. At All Island Dermatology, your provider uses the innovative Medlite C6 to evenly administer concentrated beams of light to break up the ink in your tattoo. For tattoos with intricate detail and multiple colors, the Medlite C6 has attachments that your provider sets to specific wavelengths to disintegrate black and colored ink.

How many tattoo removal appointments do I need?

It takes several appointments to entirely remove a tattoo. On average, tattoo removal takes between five and ten sessions and depends on:

  • Size
  • Color
  • Location
  • Depth of color
  • Ink type

Though it takes several sessions to remove them, laser treatment makes it possible to get rid of them without scarring.

If you regret your tattoo or would like to correct an issue with your skin or veins, laser treatments are highly effective. To see if you’re a candidate, call the office at All Island Dermatology to schedule a consultation or use the online scheduler to book now.
